A monthly concert series presented by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association in the "Barn" at Carl Sandburg's Birthplace, in an intimate smoke-free and alcohol-free environment, showcasing acoustic music in the traditional and folk style. 313 E 3rd Street, Galesburg IL, (309) 342-2361. The concerts are free and open to the public, however a $5.00 donation is greatly appreciated.  All shows start at 2:00pm, normally on the Second Sunday of the month.

Marc Janssen is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from rural Johnson County, IA. Growing up in a Midwestern small town, Janssen observed firsthand the balancing act of hard work and hard luck. He writes songs about everyday life. Janssen has been active in the traditional music scene since arriving in Iowa City in 2007. Performing on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, and banjo, he regularly plays with multiple groups across multiple genres, including old-time, bluegrass, country, jazz, folk, and rock. He maintains an active teaching studio, and he teaches at traditional music camps regionally and nationally. Janssen is currently working on his first album of original material.

David G. Smith is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist. He splits his time between his native state of Iowa and Nashville, TN in addition to touring. Smith donates his time and raises money for various charitable organizations through his Give-Back Series. Enjoy an afternoon of music with Charlie Hayes! A multi-instrumentalist, Charlie's set will include classic songs on acoustic guitar and piano. His appearance will be the final performance of the 2022 Songbag Concert Series.




We are grateful to Erin Glasnovich and the CSHSA Songbag Committee
for coordinating the Songbag Concert Series this year for the Association.

A donation of $5.00 per person is suggested as the door (or gate) entry fee.  These door receipts go to the Songbag Concert performers to supplement a base amount paid by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association.  If you enjoy the concert, please be generous in support of our performers. 

 

Songbag Concert Series performers and refreshment costs are underwritten by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association and its members at a cost of approximately $2,500 per year.
