The Street Fair opened on October 11^th with the Burlington Route Band playing a spirited air on the corner of Main and Cherry Streets. The Daily Republican-Register reporter wrote "The view down the thoroughfare, with all its pretty booths, the banners, streamers, flags and bunting was a decidedly refreshing one. The weather was perfect and the sunlight made everything appear all the gayer....Main Street never looked neater and prettier."

Early in the morning Mayor Forrest F. Cooke had city workers cleaning the streets. Company C, Sixth Regiment, Illinois Militia (Illinois National Guard), kept carriages and bicycles off Main Street. Alderman J.T. McKnight was arranging barrels of fresh water along Main Street for the visitors to satisfy their thirst.

A number of circus acts performed at the intersections along Main Street. The long line of booths on both sides of the street were colorfully decorated in the national colors: red, white and blue. Some booths combined those colors with the Knox College colors of purple and old gold.

Rosenberry & Canfield had extended their lunch counter out onto Main Street. At the corner of Main and Cherry Streets, the Galesburg Steam Bottling Works displayed their beverages. Pop was made in the booth and sold directly to customers. The Bondi Brothers displayed their goods and had counters for sales under a canopy supported by pillars. O.T. Johnson had a large display the full length of the store's frontage.

The Burgland & Burgland exhibit consisted of two black bears in a large iron cage. They would be slaughtered and sold later. Hams and dressed meats hung from the ceiling. Henry Gensert, who sold cigars and tobacco, had advertising signs of various brands hanging in his booth. It was also decorated with the national colors. All of the booths were accessorized with electric lights.

A larger crowd attended the second day of the fair. It was estimated a thousand people had come to Galesburg on the morning trains. Many others had arrived in their horse-powered conveyances.

At 2:30 in the afternoon, the queen of the fair was crowned and rode in. an automobile at the head of the floral parade. Every variety of wheeled buggy was decorated with flowers. The daughter of Dr. Wm. Bradley drove a small cart pulled by a Shetland pony. Pink roses decorated it. Mrs. C.C. Craig had a high trap covered with yellow and white poppies. The lines and harness were covered with flowers as well. Mrs. I.S. Calender drove a double carriage decorated in purple and green flowers. Mrs. Fred Seacord drove a phaeton, decked profusely with heliotrope ribbons and chrysanthemums of the same color.

The bicycle parade was held at 5:00. Eighty men, women and children participated. Ida White rode a small wheel accessorized with bunting and flags. The little girl wore a red suit trimmed with white and blue ribbons. Her father and older sister rode bikes which were similarly decorated.

Fritz Anderson, assistant to William Wolf, the architect, rode on a bicycle made to look like a modern cottage. It was made of heavy cloth. Guy Bristol, representing the Hoover, Botsford and Nelson lamp chimney store, had decorated his bike with stars, flags and three gas lamps.
